Before & After School
We are dedicated to youth. PFSC offers safe and secure care for school-age children from kindergarten through fifth grade. Child care is available both before and after school and all day long on teacher in-service days, when schools are closed due to bad weather and during summer vacation.
Licensed by the Department of Public Welfare and accredited as a Keystone Stars II facility, the Before/After School Program at Providence Family Support Center (PFSC) is open weekdays from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
Our Staff
Most staff members have earned Bachelor degrees in Education and/or a related field. They are trained to use a school-age curriculum and work closely with parents and teachers to ensure that the specific needs of each enrolled child are met. Upon enrollment in the program, parents are asked to complete a questionnaire as a means of identifying academic and social aspects of their child. This information helps staff to understand which particular subjects and issues are of the greatest concern and will require special attention. Staff is also certified yearly in CPR and First Aid through the American Red Cross.
A Day in the Program
A typical day in the Before/After School program includes: a healthy snack, homework assistance provided by Duquesne University student tutors, enrichment classes such as art, dance, music, and science, as well as opportunities for the boys to join Boy Scouts and girls in grades 3-5 to be part of a Strong Women/Strong Girls group and Girl Scouts. More time-intensive and structured activities are planned for school in-service days including field trips through Tickets for Kids. When there is a school weather delay, PFSC will provide a light breakfast for your child and ensure that he/she is transported to school.
